Have you ever had a situation such as the ones Staples describes, where you perceived or someone perceived you as threating? How did you react? After reading Staples essay, do you think you would react the same way how?
I was once perceived by someone at the age of 17, I was taken as a person who is violent and steals. My reaction was angry because I had money and wasn't a thief. I started to attack the paerson who thought of me in such a way. After reading Staples essay I wouldn't act the same way because it is not worth the trouble. I would also react differently because that would only prove that person right about people that look like me.

Would you ever get a tatto? Write paragragh answering this question. Use your answers to the questions above to support the main idea in your topic sentence.
If the time presents itself I would get a tatoo because, I would like to express myself through art. I have always wanted a tatoo when I was a child. My tatto would be my way of showing the world who I am. My tatto will state my independence and my strength. The tatoo will symbolize how different i am from everone else.

1.How would you describe each of the four tatoos pictured on the previous page? List the prominent features of each, and then write two or three sentences that describes each of them. The first tatto has the feature of a heart with two names underneath it. The tatto symbolizes the fact that this person was in love with someone and no longer is and has found a new love. This tatoo symbolizes that this person has strength to move on with life. The tatoo also says how the person is not a type to mourn over a loss.
I would describe the second tatoo as delicate. The tatoo is a simple rose on the shoulder of a girl. This symbolizes how delicate and simple the girl is. The tatoo shows how she is a peaceful person and likes stability.
The third tatoo is a cartoon character on the shoulder of a man. This tatoo symbolizes that he is a playfull person. It also expresses the fact that he is into characters. The tatoo shows that he a person that is young at heart.
The forth tatoo is a peace of art on a mans back. This tatoo shows that this person is artistic. It also shows a love for art and a love for chinese art. The tatoo shows that he is not affraid to defend hiself. The overall explanation is that he is a warrior.
2. After studying the four pictures (and reviewing your answer to question 1) write a one sentence general statement that sums up your ideas about tattos. For example why do you think people get tattos? Do you see them as a way for people to express themselves? As a way of demostrating individually?As a form of rebellion? As an impusive act? As something else? Tattos basically is a way of expressing yourself it seperates you from people.
3. List several examples that support the general statement you made in question 2. What examples could you use to support this general statement? The several examples that I can make are the tattos, what they symbolize, also the way that it is formatted on the person.

Combining The Patterns (pg.241)

In paragraph 8, Staples uses cause and effect to demonstrate what goes "into the making of a young thug". Would several examples have better explained how a youth becomes a thug?
yes i believe that the cause and effect is good but a real case in life would have etter explained events.

Combining The Patterns Questions

1. Gallagher uses cause and effect in paragraphs 1 and 2 to introduce her essay. What are the advantages of this strategy? Could she have used other patterns for example, comparison and contrast to show how her ideas about marriage contrast with popular opinion? Would these paragrahs have added to the essay's impact? The advantages of this would be the fact that she tells the reader what the essay is about and facts of the essay before really reading it. She could've used comparison and contrast to show her ideas about marriage contrast with popular opinion, these paragrapahs have added to the eesays impact because it would've showed marriage from both sides and what they have in common.

The Storm

1. How does the storm help set in motion the action of the story? List the events caused by the storm. The storm set up motion for the action of the story because it reunited and old relationship that turned into a affair.
2.Is the last line of the story to be taken literally, or is it meant to be ironic? Explain. I think the last line is to be taken literally because the affair was over and she was in the place that she wanted to be.
3.What does the story's desciptive details tell us about Calixta?The story's descriptive details tell me that Calixta was very unhappy and wanted out of her marriage.

The Storm

On one level, the story's title refers to the storm that storm that takes place through much of the story. To what else could the story's title refer? The title can refer to the storm because of the events what the characters were doing and going through can be considered as a storm. Each character had there own drama and problems that they had to get through. The storm can be literal or figuratively.
